Life as a Christian is not meant to be easy. I’m sure you have heard this before. If not, let me be the first, life as a Christian will be difficult. There is nothing “easy” about it. It requires tough decisions and self-control. It demands accountability and constant surrender. Christianity is tough and I think we’re better for it.
In good faith I have to admit that this material is not my own. I am stealing this message from my pastor. He told on this yesterday and it felt like something worth sharing. Often times I will use a sermon as a launching pad but this post is really just relaying the same information.
31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.
Love Is Indispensable
And yet I will show you the most excellent way
1 Corinthians 12:31
My pastor followed this verse by saying that excellent does not mean easy. The excellent way is not the easy way. Many times it is actually the more difficult path. It is leaning into discomfort and uncertainty and trusting anyway. In the short verse above Paul is calling us to seek the things we are not ordinarily capable of. Things that we cannot do apart from God. For some reason I find peace in this. The idea that I am so far under water that leaning on Jesus is the only answer is exciting and makes me want to continue chasing big things in an excellent way. Not an easy way.
What are you scared of? What are you withholding from God? If you feel like you’re drowning, find peace in surrendering to the only one that can handle it.
As always thought provoking… thank you
